Jackson, Mississippi -
Millsaps College clinched the
weekend Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with an 18-5 win
over Trinity University's baseball team on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (14-13, 5-3) fell behind early and was never able to come back
from that deficit. Millsaps scored three runs in the first and
though the Tigers answered with a run in the second, the Majors would
add four more runs in their next inning.
The Tigers did cut the lead to two runs (7-5) with a four-run third, but
Millsaps shut the door on this game with a five-run third to take a 12-5
lead. The Majors put together another five-run inning and never
looked back in this one, taking three out of four games over the
weekend.
Trinity's offense was held to just five hits in the game, and Bobby
Zabor was the only Tiger player with an extra-base hit. Zabor
finished 1-3 with one run scored.
The Tigers return home on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Loyola-New
Orleans at 5:00 p.m., followed by another weekend series in conference
play. Trinity will host Austin College from Thursday through
Saturday in the SCAC series.
