Georgetown, Texas -
Trinity's baseball team opened
up a four-game weekend series in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
play with a 7-0 shutout loss to Southwestern University on Friday night.
Trinity (15-19, 5-7) fell behind early after a homer in the bottom of
the first inning put Southwestern on top 3-0. That early blow was
all the Pirates needed, though they added some insurance runs late in
the game for the final tally.
Evan Bronson (3-3) took the loss for Trinity, giving up four runs on
eight hits through six innings, striking out three batters, and breaking
up a stretch of two solid outings for the sophomore left-hander.
Adam Morrison (7-4) pitched a complete-game six-hit shutout for
Southwestern.
Andreas Verrios collected two of Trinity's six hits in the game, while
Jeff Claydon hit his first career double in a 1-4 performance at the
plate.
Leading hitter Nick Vera was 0-1, drawing three walks as Morrison
seemingly pitched around him in this game.
Trinity and Southwestern continue the series with a doubleheader
tomorrow afternoon - one seven-inning game and one nine-inning game.
The regular season conference schedule for both teams will wrap up with
a single game on Sunday afternoon.
