Seguin, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team, ranked 30th nationally, lost a 5-0 game to 14th-ranked Texas
Lutheran University on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (5-5) was shut out for the first
time this season, and for the first time since a 7-0 shutout loss at
McMurry early last year. Before that, the Tigers had not gone
scoreless since playing at Texas Lutheran in the 2003 season.
The Bulldogs struck early in the game,
scoring three runs in the first innning, followed by another run in the
second. Texas Lutheran added an insurance run in the eighth for
the final score.
Trinity's Brian Oates (1-1) gave up four
runs on two hits through 1.2 innings, though just two of those runs were
earned. Three Tiger relievers combined to allow just one unearned
run on six hits over the final 6.1 innings.
Nick Vera led the Tiger offense with a 2-4
performance at the plate, and five other players added one hit each.
Steven Ramos improved his team-best hitting streak to six games.
Texas Lutheran's Jason Foley and Matt Moore
were both 2-4 in the game, while Jacob Kaase finished with one hit and
three RBI - highlighted by his two-run single in the first inning.
Trinity will not play again for a week,
then the team will travel to Abilene to take on McMurry and
Hardin-Simmons in a pair of road games on Tuesday, March 6.
