Richardson, Texas - Trinity's
baseball team lost the rubber game of this weekend's three-game series
at UT-Dallas, falling 3-4 in extra innings on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (1-2) took the first game of the
series, but lost each of the past two. UT-Dallas took the early
lead in today's game with a run in the second, but the Tigers took
control with a three-run fifth inning.
The Comets tied the game with a pair of
runs in the eighth, then won the game - and the series - with a
10th-inning sacrifice fly.
Jordan Pennington was 3-5 with a run scored
for Trinity offensively, while Steven Ramos added a pair of hits and
drove in a run. First-year Tom Carberry got his first start of the
year in left field for the Tigers, finishing 1-2 with a run scored, and
walking twice to reach base three times.
Britton Horn gave up three runs on eight
hits through 8.1 innings of work, but didn't figure in the decision.
Horn walked four, but also struck out four in his season debut.
Ryan Poffenroth (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run in the 10th to
UT-Dallas.
The Tigers return home for a single game
against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday evening, and will not return home
again until March 14.
