Tigers Beaten by Washington & Lee to Finish Second Day of Tournament

Peoria, Arizona - The Trinity baseball team lost a 6-5 game to Washington & Lee University to finish off the second day of the Desert Classic Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Trinity (3-4) led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Washington & Lee rallied with five runs over the next two innings to take the lead - and eventually - the victory.  The win was the first of the young season for the Generals.

The two teams combined four 27 hits, with Trinity holding a 14-13 edge in hits, and Washington & Lee committed four errors to just one for the Tigers.

Steven Ramos and Ted Wilson both finished 3-4 in the game, with Wilson driving in one run and Ramos scoring once.  Nick Vera and Bobby Zabor both had two hits, while Stosh Hoover recorded two RBI.

Britton Horn gave up just one run on six hits through 5.1 innings, striking out three and walking three.  Ryan Poffenroth (0-2) allowed five runs on seven hits to close out the game, though he did record five strikeouts. 

Five Washington & Lee players had two hits in the game, led by Terrence McKelvey and Andrew Henderson going 2-3.  McKelvey scored twice and drove in one run, while Henderson drove in two RBI.

Trinity will face Whitworth tomorrow morning in the Tournament Semifinals, while Washington & Lee will take on Hastings.
