San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team was tripped up in Sunday's home opener, as Concordia (TX)
University took a 6-4 victory.
Trinity (1-2) won the opening game of the
weekend series, then Concordia won two in a row to take the three-game
series.
Tiger starter Mike Hunter (0-1) struck out
three batters, but gave up six runs and four walks through three
innings. Ryan Poffenroth came on in relief, striking out five
without allowing a hit in six innings.
Trinity fell behind early after scoring a
run in the first, though Hunter was able to induce a double play to end
the inning. In the bottom of the first, the Tigers managed four
runs on four hits to take the lead.
Concordia loaded the bases for the second
straight inning, though, and this time made Trinity pay to the tune of
four more runs to take a 5-4 lead. The three-run triple was the
only extra-base hit of the game for Concordia.
The Tigers finished with three doubles
overall, including two by Jordan Pennington. Trinity left four
runners on base in the final four innings - including an inning-ending
double play in the eighth.
Dominick Robusto also collected two hits
for the Tigers, while Stosh Hoover finished 1-2 with two walks and was
hit by a pitch to reach base four times in five plate appearances.
Trinity will be back in action tomorrow
afternoon at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, before returning home
for another three-game weekend series with Rutgers University-Newark
from Friday through Sunday.
