San Antonio - The Tiger baseball
team opened up a two-game weekend series with a 9-2 win over DeSales
University on Friday night.
Trinity (7-4) opened up the scoring with
three runs in the first, then added three more in the third before
DeSales could get on the board. The visitors scored twice in the
third to cut into the lead, but the Tigers scored three more times in
the seventh for the final score.
Trinity's Drew Bignall threw four solid
innings in his first start of the 2008 season, striking out five and
giving up just two runs on four hits. Ryan Poffenroth (1-0) struck
out four in four innings to earn the win.
Evan Jones and Jordan Pennington nabbed two
hits each for Trinity, with Jones driving in four runs in the game.
Pennington also drove in three runs and hit his team-leading third homer
of the season.
Kevin Calbick finished 3-4 with two runs
scored, while Dillan Early was 2-4 with two runs as well. Stosh
Hoover drew three walks in the game, scoring twice for the Tigers.
Trinity and DeSales conclude the two-game
series tomorrow afternoon. The opening pitch is scheduled for 1:00
p.m., and the game will be webcast and videocast live. Tomorrow's
game will also feature live stats.
