Conway, Arkansas - Trinity's
baseball team held off Hendrix College for a 10-7 win on Sunday
afternoon, securing its third win in four games of the weekend series.
Trinity (11-7, 3-1) opened up the game with
five runs to take the early lead, then answered Hendrix's run in the
bottom of the first with three more scores in the third to make it 8-1.
After a four-run third inning for Hendrix,
though, the lead was down to just three runs. The home team was
not done yet, though, scoring once in both the fourth and fifth innings
to cut the lead to just one.
In the top of the sixth, Trinity's offense
was finally able to answer with a run of its own, then added an
insurance run in the ninth to complete the scoring.
Drew Bignall started the game for the
Tigers, giving up six runs on nine hits, though just two of those runs
were earned. Clint Robertson (1-0) threw the final 4.1 innings
without allowing a run on four hits to earn the victory.
Dillan Early and Steven Ramos led Trinity's
offense with three hits each, and both players also finished with two
RBI and a run scored. Evan Jones went 1-4 with two runs and two
RBI to increase his team-leading RBI total to 28 on the season.
Trinity returns home tomorrow night to take
on Cardinal Stritch University in a single game at 7:00 p.m. The
Tigers play all week at home, including a four-game SCAC series with
Southwestern this weekend.
