San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team lost for the second straight game to Millsaps College, forcing a
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series split.
Trinity (26-12, 12-4) lost 6-2 in today's
game, following yesterday's 13-5 defeat. The Tigers won the opener
13-8 on Friday, then took the first game of yesterday's doubleheader
5-3.
Millsaps scored twice in the first inning
to take the early lead, and while Trinity managed a run in the bottom of
the inning, it would be the only run the team scored until the ninth.
The Majors added single runs in four other
innings to take a 6-1 lead, and held Trinity's offense to just six hits
total in the game.
Stosh Hoover and Evan Jones had two hits
each for the Tigers, including Hoover's 16th double of the season.
Jones has now hit in five straight games, while Hoover's streak is up to
four consecutive games with a hit.
Kyle Felix and Zach Fregosi both drove in
runs for Trinity, which were scored by Kevin Calbick and Dominick
Robusto. Robusto also hit his sixth double of the year in the
game.
Brian Oates (5-2) took the loss, though he
struck out eight and gave up just one earned run in seven innings of
work. The Tigers made three errors, leading to four unearned runs
in the game.
Trinity finishes off the regular season on
Tuesday night against Howard Payne University. The Tigers also
locked up the SCAC West Division's top seed for next weekend's SCAC
Divisional Playoffs, taking on Centre College on Friday in Millington,
Tennessee.
