San Antonio - The Trinity Tiger
baseball team had its 10-game winning streak snapped in a 5-3 loss in
game one of a doubleheader against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (24-9) out-hit UMHB 11-9 in the
game, but could manage only three runs in the seven-inning game,
stranding 13 runners on base.
The Tigers fell behind early as UMHB scored
a run in the first, but the offense responded quickly with a tying run
in the second inning. A pair of RBI singles in the fourth inning
put UMHB back on top, which came right after Trinity left the bases
loaded in the bottom of the previous inning.
In the fifth, Trinity again tied the game
with two runs on two hits, also taking advantage of two errors by the
visitors. Jordan Pennington's pinch-hit double with two outs tied
the game, scoring Jeff Claydon - who had just driven in the team's
second run earlier in the inning.
In the sixth, UMHB scratched across an
unearned run to reclaim the lead, though, and would not lose it again.
The Tigers left three runners on in the final two innings.
Kevin Jackson went 2-4 in the game,
while Claydon and Dylan Early both went 2-3 with one RBI each.
Pennington's double was the only extra-base hit of the game for Trinity.
Evan Bronson (5-3) took the loss, giving up
two runs in the final two innings - though only one of those was earned.
Brian Oates gave up three runs on five hits through the first five
innings.
Trinity and UMHB will finish off the
doubleheader this evening at E.M. Stevens Field.
