San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team lost the second game of a doubleheader against the University of
Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, which was the third loss in the season
series.
Trinity (24-10) came out in game two on
fire, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings to jump ahead
6-0 early. The visitors cut the lead in half with a three-run
homer in the fourth, but Steven Ramos hit a solo homer to make it 7-3
through five innings.
In the eighth, UMHB hit back-to-back homers
after a leadoff double to make it 7-6, then singled home the tying run
later in the inning. In the bottom of the eighth, Trinity
responded with two more runs, and seemed to regain control of a game
that seemed to be slipping away.
After a leadoff walk and a hit batter in
the top of the ninth, though, UMHB hit its fourth homer of the day to
score the go-ahead run and make it a 10-9 ballgame. In the bottom
of the inning, a one-out walk gave Trinity some life, but an unlucky
double play against the home team finished off the game.
Kevin Calbick smashed a hard line drive to
the right side, but it was right at the first baseman, who snared it and
took the one step over to the bag to finish the game.
Evan Jones was 2-3 with three runs scored
in the game, hitting his 20th double of the season to tie the school's
single season record. That record, held by Jason Armstrong, was
set in 2004, and Jones will have five more regular season games to try
and break the tie.
Kyle Felix also had two hits, driving in
three runs, and Jordan Pennington also finished with three RBI.
Dylan Early and Ramos both grabbed a pair of hits and scored one run
each.
Trinity will host Millsaps College in the
final SCAC games of the year this weekend. The Tigers need just
one win in the four-game series to lock up the SCAC West Division's top
seed for the Divisional Playoffs.
