Bronson Tosses Four-Hit Shutout to Even SCAC Series

San Antonio - Trinity bounced back from last night's loss in the SCAC series opener with Southwestern on Friday afternoon, winning with a 2-0 shutout in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Trinity (15-8, 4-2) took full advantage of a stellar effort from junior lefthander Evan Bronson in this seven-inning game.  Bronson (4-2) threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout in this one, striking out seven Southwestern hitters to put Trinity back in business in the series.

Bronson gave up hits in each of the first three innings, then allowed just one more over the final four as he heated up on the mound.  He picked up five of his seven strikeouts in the final four innings, and picked off the only baserunner he allowed in that time.

With two outs in the fifth, first-year Kevin Jackson singled to left field and stole second to get into scoring position.  Dominick Robusto responded with an RBI single to center, which was followed by an RBI double  to right-center by Stosh Hoover, giving Trinity all the runs it would need for the win.

Robusto and Hoover both finished 2-3 with one RBI in the game, while Jackson was 1-2 with a run scored.  Kevin Calbick also had a hit in his only at-bat of the game, and the Tigers totaled seven hits in the win.

Game two of the doubleheader will follow later this afternoon.  The series will conclude with a single game at noon on Saturday.
