Tigers Down Texas Lutheran for Ninth Straight Win

Seguin, Texas - Trinity's baseball team won a wild 24-12 game at Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday afternoon, extending the team's winning streak to nine games, and tying the season series at one win each.

Trinity (23-8) jumped ahead early with eight runs in the third inning, then added three more runs the next inning in response to Texas Lutheran's run in the bottom of the third.  After Texas Lutheran left the bases loaded in the fourth, scoring only one run in the inning, Trinity still held an 11-2 lead and seemed to be in control of the game.

The Bulldogs, however, had different plans, plating seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to just two (11-9) with four more innings to play.

The Tigers then buried the home team with a seven-run inning of its own that made it 18-9, then added three runs in both the eighth and the ninth to be sure.

Four players hit home runs in the game, three of which were by Trinity hitters.  The Tigers also had six of the game's seven doubles - with four of those coming from Evan Jones and Stosh Hoover.

Jones was 3-6 with two runs and five RBI, cracking his 17th and 18th doubles of the season.  Hoover finished 3-7 with three runs scored and two RBI, hitting his 13th and 14th two-baggers of the year.

Kyle Felix, named the SCAC Player of the Week earlier in the day, went 4-6 with three runs and two RBI for the Tigers, collecting three singles and a double.

Kevin Calbick went 2-5 with three runs and five RBI - three of which came on his three-run homer in the eighth inning.  Jordan Pennington was 2-5 with three runs and three RBI, also hitting a three-run shot over the right field fence.  Jeff Claydon also homered for the Tigers, collecting two hits, two runs, and two RBI in the game.

Dillan Early had three hits and two RBI, while Zach Fregosi went 2-4 with two runs scored.  Kevin Jackson was 3-4 with three runs and two RBI, reaching base five times total in the game.

Noah Solomon (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win, striking out four batters in three innings - giving up just two runs in the offensive showcase.  Evan Bronson also nabbed four strikeouts in relief, finishing off the eighth and the ninth innings.

Trinity returns home to face Schreiner University tomorrow night at E.M. Stevens Field.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be the team's final game of the week.
