Tigers Fall to D-I University at Buffalo on Wednesday

San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team lost in a 17-11 offensive shootout with the University at Buffalo on Wednesday night at E.M. Stevens Field.

Trinity (8-6) gave up a run in the second, but tied the game with a run of its own in the third - taking advantage of back-to-back singles to open the inning.

By design, nine Tiger pitchers took the mound in this game.  Zach Bukowski started for Trinity, giving up no runs on a hit in the first.  Britton Horn came on in the third to spark Trinity's game-tying inning, mowing down three straight Buffalo hitters.

In the fourth, Buffalo exploded with a 12-run inning to take control of the game, taking advantage of two errors and a catcher's interference to score six unearned runs.

Trinity was able to answer with six runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth, chasing Buffalo starter Dan Francis from the game, and cutting the lead to 13-7.  After four more Buffalo runs in the seventh, Trinity responded again with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.  In the ninth, the Tigers scored twice more for the final score.

Jordan Pennington and Steven Ramos finished with three hits and three runs each for the Tigers, while three other players had two hits each.  Dillan Early went 2-3 with a run and an RBI, while Kevin Calbick went 2-5 with two RBI.  Evan Jones, Trinity's leading hitter this season, was 2-6 with one RBI.  Dominick Robusto scored a pair of runs.

Trinity will travel to Hendrix College for a four-game weekend series in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.  The Tigers play one game Friday evening, then a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  On Sunday, the teams conclude the series with a single game at noon.  Trinity returns home on Monday for an eight-game home stand.
