San Antonio - Former
Vanderbilt University pitcher Taylor Childress has been named assistant
coach and recruiting coordinator for the Trinity Tiger baseball team,
beginning this season.
Head Coach Tim Scannell said,
“I feel unbelievably fortunate to have such a passionate and
knowledgeable young coach join our coaching staff. We recruited Taylor
out of high school and lost him to Vanderbilt where he became a
self-made Freshman All-American. He has an outstanding work ethic and
an excellent eye for evaluating talent. All these attributes coupled
with a strong background in NCAA sanctioned summer leagues makes Coach
Childress a great addition to our program.”
Childress will take over the
recruiting coordinator duties for former Tiger coach Ken Niles.
Along with recruiting, Coach Childress will assist David Smith with the
pitching staff and and Coach Scannell with defensive players and
hitting.
Said Childress, “I could not
be more excited to be apart of Trinity University and its baseball
program. The chance to work with talented and intelligent athletes
combined with recruiting on a national level is a great opportunity to
learn and grow as a coach. The players and the rest of the coaching
staff work very hard to maintain the tremendous success they have had
and I am really looking forward to helping the program reach the College
World Series.”
As a coach, Childress has
spent the last two seasons as an assistant at the University School of
Nashville, helping the team tie the school record in wins for two
consecutive seasons. Childress was also the head coach of a summer
travel team sponsored by Athlon Sports Magazine, which had a top-20
finish in the NABF World Series Classic this past summer.
Childress is a member of the
American Baseball Coaches Association, and possesses a Master of
Education in Organizational Leadership from Vanderbilt University. He
and his wife, Courtney, now reside in San Antonio. |
