Tigers Ranked in Three Preseason Polls

San Antonio - The Trinity University football team has been ranked in the top 20 by three different groups in the 2005 preseason Division III rankings.

Trinity, led by 16th-year head coach Steve Mohr, is 11th in the D3football.com preseason poll, 12th in the Street and Smith’s poll and No. 17 by the Lindy’s poll.

Last season, the Tigers, who went 9-2 overall, won their 12th consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship (6-0 record). Trinity advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the eighth straight year – the second-best active streak in all of Division III football. The Tigers, who lost 32-13 to eventual Stagg Bowl finalist Mary Hardin-Baylor in the opening playoff round, were ranked 13th by the American Football Coaches Association.

Thirteen starters (six defense, five offense and two special teams) will lead the Tigers as they report to camp Aug. 12. Trinity opens its 2005 campaign Sept. 3 at Austin College in Sherman. The home opener is slated for Sept. 10, when the Tigers take on Texas Lutheran at E.M. Stevens Stadium.
