San Antonio - The
Trinity University football team has been ranked in the top 20 by three
different groups in the 2005 preseason Division III rankings.
Trinity, led by 16th-year head
coach Steve Mohr, is 11th in the D3football.com preseason poll,
12th in the Street and Smith’s
poll and No. 17 by the Lindy’s
poll.
Last season, the Tigers, who went 9-2
overall, won their 12th consecutive Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference championship (6-0 record). Trinity advanced to the
NCAA Division III playoffs for the eighth straight year – the
second-best active streak in all of Division III football. The Tigers,
who lost 32-13 to eventual Stagg Bowl finalist Mary Hardin-Baylor in the
opening playoff round, were ranked 13th by the American
Football Coaches Association.
Thirteen starters (six defense, five
offense and two special teams) will lead the Tigers as they report to
camp Aug. 12. Trinity opens its 2005 campaign Sept. 3 at Austin College
in Sherman. The home opener is slated for Sept. 10, when the Tigers take
on Texas Lutheran at E.M. Stevens Stadium. |
