Tiger Football Adds Game Against Azusa Pacific for 2009

Trinity lost a game late last month when Colorado College announced that - among other sports - it would be dropping its football program, effective next season.  Down to just three home games next season, the Tiger coaching staff has worked hard since then to fill the vacancy.  The game will be the eighth game of the year, following a road trip to DePauw University.

Steve Mohr, who will begin his 20th season as Trinity's head football coach, led the team to an 8-2 record last year and a tie for second place in the SCAC.  He has posted an overall record of 153-56 in his first 19 years, and is the winningest coach in Trinity history - both in victories and winning percentage.

Over the past 15 seasons, Trinity's football program has the second-best winning percentage in all of Division III.  The team's record of 143-26 gives it a winning percentage of .846 during that span, which only perennial powerhouse Mount Union has beaten.

Since 1996, Trinity has the best winning percentage of any football team in the state of Texas - including all Division I and Division II institutions.  The Tigers also are tied with the University of Texas for the most overall wins in the state.

Trinity will open up with its first four games on the road, facing McMurry University and Texas Lutheran University in the first two weeks of the season.  In week three, the Tigers begin SCAC play at Rhodes College, then finish off the month of September with a key matchup with Millsaps College. 

The team opens up at home on October 3 against Birmingham-Southern, followed by the bye week.  The Tigers then play three home games in the next four weeks, including a November 7 game against Centre College on Alumni Weekend.  Trinity travels to Austin College to close out the regular season on November 14.
