University Tigers first-year kicker
Garrett Biel of Clayton, Calif., has been named the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
The 5-foot-8, 164-pound Biel booted a
34-yard-field goal as time expired in the Tigers 22-21 win last Saturday
over Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.
Trinity now stands at 2-0 and will
take on Rhodes College (2-0) in an SCAC opener at 1 p.m. Saturday in
Memphis, Tenn.
Biel kicked a school-record-tying
three field goals (on three attempts) for the Tigers, including a
25-yarder, the opening score of the game, with 13:05 remaining in the
first half. With no time left at halftime, Biel fired up a 28-yard field
goal.
Four other Tiger players gave kicked
three field goals in a game: Peter Licalzi (2007 – vs.
Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps), Todd Canion (2002 – vs. Rose-Hulman),
Chris Ulmo (1999 – vs. Rose-Hulman and DePauw) and Paul Morris (1999 –
Austin College). |
