Tigers Open Bracket Play With Loss to Chapman

Panama City, Florida - Trinity's softball team opened up bracket play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 5-2 loss to Chapman University on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity (7-5) started the scoring with two runs in the second inning on a home run by Erin Fodness.  It was the first career homer for Fodness.

Chapman answered those runs with four runs in the third inning, then added the final score in the fifth.

Erin Mulvey (5-3) took the loss after allowing four runs in three innings, striking out three batters.  Jillian Degerness came on in relief, giving up just one run on two hits over the final three innings.  The appearance by Degerness was the 61st of her career, setting the new record for games pitched for a Tiger softball player.

Christina Carni finished 2-3 with a run scored, while Fodness was 1-3 with the home run in the second.  Jamie Williams and Kristin Yurasits were both 1-3 in the game.

The Tigers will play Wheaton (MA) College tomorrow to start things off in the Consolation portion of the Gold Bracket.
