- Trinity's softball team wrapped up competition at the NFCA Leadoff
Classic with a 4-2 loss to Mount Union College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (8-6) finished 4-2 in the tournament, and
today's loss came in the consolation finals of the Gold Bracket.
The Tigers fell behind early as Mount Union scored
an unearned run in the first inning, but the team rallied with runs in
the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead. Mt. Union
regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth, also adding an
insurance run in the sixth.
Erin Mulvey was charged with the loss, though she
allowed just one earned run (three total) on five hits in five innings.
Mulvey struck out six without walking a batter.
Christina Carni was 1-3 with her first career home
run for the Tigers. The homer came with one out in the second and
tied the game 1-1 at the time.
Kristin Yurasits finished 2-3 and six other
players had one hit for Trinity. Mulvey scored the team's second
run, driving in by Michelle Gossein.
The Tigers return to action on March 20, playing
host to Midland Lutheran University in a doubleheader that will start at
5:00 p.m. That will start a 10-game home stand by the Tigers, who
have played just four games at home so far this season. |
