The Benedictine College Ravens (Kan.) took a non-conference softball
doubleheader from the Tigers Wednesday.
Benedictine won the opener 4-1 and the
second game 8-1. The Tigers now stand at 2-14 and the Ravens are 9-7.
The first game was tightly played. Benedictine scored its runs in the
second inning. Shortstop Katie Batchkora drove in three of the runs with
a double.
Tiger center fielder Karen
MacPherson scored Trinity’s run in the second inning, by stealing home.
MacPherson, who batted 3-4 with one run, had two stolen bases in the
game. Pitcher Annie Clarke (1-5) was the starter and took the loss. She
pitched two innings until relieved in the third by Helen Thompson.
Clarke also cracked a triple in the fifth inning.
Benedictine scored three earned
runs, had five hits, made one error and left four players on base.
Trinity scored one earned run, also produced five hits and committed an
error. The Tigers stranded seven players on base.
In the second half of the
double-header, the Ravens scored one run in each of the first two
innings, three in the third, and one in innings four, five and six.
Trinity’s run came in the sixth inning, as shortstop Jamie Williams hit
a double to right center, scoring left fielder Rachel Garrett. Williams
hit 1-3 with an RBI. Second baseman Lee Smith hit 2-3 with two doubles.
Britanny Losey (1-6) started the game on the mound and was charged with
the loss. She was relieved in the fourth by Helen Thompson in the
fourth. Clarke took over in the sixth inning.
The Ravens scored three earned runs,
had seven hits, no errors and left six on base. The Tigers scored one
earned run, scattered five hits, made six errors and had five players
left on base.
Trinity begins is SCAC campaign
Saturday by hosting Hendrix College in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Sunday’s
doubleheader begins at noon. |
