- The Tiger softball team lost both games
of a Thursday evening doubleheader against Evangel University of the
NAIA. Trinity (2-12) lost the first game
9-1, which saw Evangel score eight unanswered runs. In game two,
the Tigers lost 7-5 in a much better overall game.
Evangel (11-5) broke away from a 1-1 tie after the
first inning to win the opener 9-1. The Lady Crusaders had seven earned
runs and 11 hits, and committed no errors. Trinity had one earned run,
four hits and made two errors.
The second half of the twin bill was much
tighter. Down 7-4 after five innings, the Tigers closed to 5-7 with a
run in the fifth inning. Designated hitter Teresa Greppi opened the
inning with a double and advanced to third base on a single by
outfielder Karen MacPherson. Greppi stole home to get the run.
MacPherson batted 3 for 4 with one run scored.
The Lady Crusaders had seven earned runs, eight
hits and did not commit an error. The Tigers (2-12) scored five earned
runs, cracked out 12 hits and made one error.
MacPherson batted 4 for 7, with two runs, for the
afternoon. First baseman Alexa Calderon was 4 for 6 with one RBI and a
run scored.
The Tigers will next take the field Friday, March
13, for the three-day Millsaps College Classic at Ridgeland, Miss. |
