Trinity's softball team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference play with a Saturday afternoon sweep of Hendrix College.
Trinity (4-14, 2-0) takes the early
lead in the SCAC West Division standings with the wins. The Tigers
took the opener 6-4, then exploded for a 9-1 in game two, setting a new
season-high in runs scored.
The Tigers broke a scoreless tie in
game one with a run in the second inning, then added two more runs in
the third. In the fourth inning, Trinity had a runner thrown out
at the plate to keep the score 4-0, and Hendrix responded to the
momentum with two runs in the fifth to cut the lead in half.
After adding another run in the
sixth, Hendrix had closed the gap to just one (4-3) in the SCAC opener
for both teams. The Tigers knocked in a pair of insurance runs in
the sixth, and it turned out that they would need them. Hendrix
was able to bring home another run in the seventh, but left the bases
loaded to end the game.

lead Trinity's offense, while Alexa Calderon was 2-4 with two RBI.

for the Tigers, giving up just two runs (one earned) on six hits through
five innings. Annie Clarke recorded her first career save, giving
up three hits in the final two innings, allowing just two unearned runs,
and striking out three batters.
In the second game, Hendrix was able
to score in the first inning to take its first lead of the day, but it
proved to be short-lived as Trinity tied the game in the bottom of the
inning.
In the third inning, the Tigers blew
the game wide open with seven runs on five hits to take an 8-1 lead.
Trinity added another run in the fourth to set up a run-rule after the
top of the fifth.
Brittany Losey (2-6) secured the
complete-game victory by giving up just one unearned run on six hits,
earning her team-best fourth complete game of the year.
Karen MacPherson stole two bases to
increase her school single season record to 18 this year. Garrett
also stole two bases in the game to break the previous record of 11
stolen bases. MacPherson was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Christina Carni was 2-3 with one run
and one RBI, while Kate Wright paced the Tiger offense with three hits
and two runs scored. Greppi added two RBI in the second game.
Trinity and Hendrix will finish off
the SCAC weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday at noon. It
will be the last home games for the Tigers until April 18. |
