- The Tiger softball team lost its second
straight doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, getting swept by Schreiner
University. Trinity (0-4) lost 6-3 in the
opener and 5-3 in the second game. The Tigers trailed 6-0 heading
into the bottom of the seventh of game one, but managed three runs on
four hits in the bottom of the inning to try and make a comeback.
In game two, neither team could plate a run until
the fifth inning, and Schreiner was once again out in front with a
two-run inning. The Tigers answered with a run in the bottom of
the inning, but Schreiner immediately scored three more in the sixth to
go up 5-1. Trinity did score twice in the bottom of the sixth, but
could get nothing more against Schreiner.
Annie Clarke (0-1) took the loss in the opener,
giving up four earned runs - six total - on nine hits in her first
complete game. She gave up one walk and struck out three.
Brittany Losey (0-2) allowed five runs - only three of which were earned
- on nine hits in the second game, recording four strikeouts.
Jamie Williams had two hits in the opening game,
which included one of three seventh-inning doubles for the Tigers.
Alexa Calderon and Christina Carni also had doubles in the inning -
their only hits of the game.
Williams collected another hit in the second game,
and was one of three players to drive in a run in game two. Rachel
Garrett and Caitlin Richards also grabbed RBI for the Tigers.
Richards and Carni cracked doubles, as did Teresa Greppi.
Trinity will face off against Concordia (TX)
University next Saturday, continuing its homestand to start the season.
The Tigers will open up the road portion of the schedule on Wednesday,
February 25, at Texas Lutheran University. |
