- The
Trinity University Tigers and
Southwestern University Pirates split a SCAC softball doubleheader
Friday at Taylor Sanders Field.
Southwestern won the first game 8-0, in
a six-inning run rule, and Trinity took the second 4-2. The two teams
conclude their series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
Trinity stands at 9-17 and 7-3 SCAC,
and Southwestern is 16-14 and 7-3 SCAC. The Tigers and Pirates now share
the lead in the SCAC West Division.
The Pirates were consistent on
scoring in the opener, putting up two runs in each of the first three
innings. Southwestern, then had one run in the sixth and one in the
seventh to complete the game. The Pirates collected 11 hits, made two
errors and left nine players on base. Southwestern pitcher Kaitlyn
Pavlicek (9-5) limited Trinity to just one hit, a single by shortstop
Jamie Williams in the sixth inning. Brittany Losey was the starting
pitcher and took the loss. The Tigers made five errors and left five
players on base.
The second game was a different
story, as Trinity struck first. Center fielder Kate Wright singled in
the first inning and drove in left fielder Rachel Garrett. The Pirates
countered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Southwestern scored a run in the
third inning and led 2-1. Then, the Tigers came to life in the fifth
inning, with two runs. Right fielder Karen MacPherson stole a base and
scored on an error. Wright singled to left field as Williams crossed the
plate. In the top of the seventh, Williams singled and scored MacPherson,
as Trinity led 4-2.
Williams batted 2-3 with an RBI and
one run, and MacPherson went 2-4 with two runs. Wright hit 2-4 with two
RBIs.
Losey relieved Helen Thompson in the
fourth inning and went on to take the victory. She evened her record at
7-7. Losey allowed no runs, two hits, two walks and struck out a batter
in four innings of work
The Tigers had eight hits, made one
error and left seven players on base. The Pirates produced seven hits,
committed two errors and stranded 11 players. |
