Georgetown, Texas - The Tigers lost both games of their SCAC doubleheader at Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon.

Southwestern edged Trinity 10-9 in the opener, and won the second, six-inning run-rule game 9-1. The two teams split a doubleheader Friday and the Pirates won the series 3-1.

The Tigers are in second place in the SCAC West Division with a 7-5 record (9-19 overall). Southwestern took over first place with a 9-3 SCAC mark (18-14 overall). Hendrix (18-15, 9-7 SCAC) is in third place and Austin College is fourth (11-21, 6-6 SCAC). Trinity will host the six-team, double-elimination SCAC Championship tournament April 24-26. Three teams from each division qualify for the event.

Saturday’s opening game was tied at 1-1 after two innings. Tiger senior second baseman Lee Smith singled to center field in the second inning and drove in senior center fielder Kate Wright. Trinity put up two runs in the top of the third, for a 3-1 lead. Senior shortstop Jamie Williams swinged through the left side and scored first-year right fielder Karen MacPherson. First-year left fielder Rachel Garrett, who had reached first base on an error, also scored an unearned run.

Southwestern took a 6-3 lead with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. But Trinity re-took the lead, 8-6, with five Tiger runs in the top of the fifth. MacPherson scored on an error and Garrett crossed the plate on an RBI by Williams. Junior third  baseman Christina Carni singled to center field, scoring Wright and Williams. Smith tripled down the left field line, driving in Carni.

The Pirates closed the gap with one run in the bottom of the fifth. The Tigers answered in the sixth inning on a Williams’ double, scoring MacPherson. Trinity’s win was not in the cards, though, as the Pirates scored three runs in the sixth.

Wright batted 2-4 with two runs, and chalked up her 150th career hit, third on the all-time Trinity list. Williams, the career leader in hits, went 2-4 with three RBIs and one run.  She increased her career total to 183. MacPherson batted 2-4 and scored three runs, while stealing a base.

First-year right-hander Brittany Losey (7-8) pitched 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.  The Tigers had 10 hits, made three errors and left four players on base. The Pirates produced eight hits, committed six errors and stranded six players.

The second game was all Southwestern, as the Pirates took a 7-1 lead. Southwestern scored two runs in each of the first two innings and three in fourth. The Tigers’ lone run came in the top of the sixth, as sophomore first baseman Alexa Calderon singled, scoring MacPherson. The Pirates closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

MacPherson hit 2-3 with one run and a triple. Calderon batted 1-3 with an RBI.  Junior right-hander Helen Thompson (1-2) was the starter and was charged with the loss.
