![]()
The 2008 SCAC Championships opened up
Wednesday night in record-breaking fashion, as Trinity's Ryan Cook won
the 1-meter men's diving event with a score of 512.00, breaking the
previous SCAC record. Sewanee's Jon Morris set the record in 1999,
finishing with a score of 471.45 in the event. Cook, the 2005 SCAC
Diver of the Year, was previously second on the SCAC's all-time list
with his score of 441.95 in the 2007 SCAC Meet. Finishing second
was Hunter Hayes of Centre, while Trinity's Travis Mills came in third
to round out the All-SCAC divers on the 1-meter board. Each of the
three scores was higher than Cook's second-place mark from last season,
and Hayes actually surpassed Morris's record with his score of 478.20 on
Wednesday.
The swimming portion of the SCAC Meet
will begin on Thursday with the first day of prelims. Women's
3-meter diving will then take place during the afternoon, followed by
the first day of swimming finals on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.
