Three members of the Trinity University
Tigers women’s soccer team have been elected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-District VI Teams.
Senior midfielder
Alex Leamy and junior defender Danika Wright made the All-District VI
First Team. Senior forward Brianna Young made the Second Team.
Voting is
conducted nationwide by members of CoSIDA, the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
Leamy and Wright
are now eligible for selection to the national Academic All-America
Team, when it is announced Nov. 17.
Leamy was elected
to the 2008 national Academic All-America Third Team. She is an
engineering science major with a 3.95 grade point average. Wright, from
Alpine, Utah, is an accounting major with a 3.84 GPA. Young, from
Rockville Centre, N.Y., is an English major with a 3.31 GPA.
Wright is a
three-year starter who has scored four goals and two assists this
season. Last season, Wright was named to the NSCAA All-Region
Second Team and was a First Team All-SCAC selection as well. She
was also a member of the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team in 2008.
Young leads
Trinity with 13 goals and nine assists this year, including six
game-winning goals. She has scored in 10 consecutive games heading
into the final weekend of the regular season, which is the longest
streak for a Tiger women's soccer player since 2000.
The Tigers are
ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division III, and are undefeated with a 14-0-0
record. Trinity won its 14th Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
title (7-0-0 record), and a bid to the NCAA playoffs. |
