LeaderShape Institute 2008 will take place May 18-23, 2008.

More details to come on the application and selection process in January.

LeaderShape Institute – a Trinity & St. Mary’s University Collaboration

Beginning in 2007, Trinity and St. Mary’s Universities began collaborating in hosting the LeaderShape Institute for our students.  From May 13-18, 2007, nearly 60 students from both universities trekked out to the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels for an intensive week of learning, leadership development and memory-making.

LeaderShape is a nationally recognized leadership program that seeks to develop the leadership capacity of participants.  The learning outcomes for LeaderShape include:

Increasing the commitment to acting consistently with core ethical values, personal values and convictions;

Enhancing capabilities to develop and enrich relationships as well as strengthen their commitment to respecting the dignity and contributions of all people;

Embracing a belief in a healthy disregard for the impossible; and

Developing the capability to produce extraordinary results.

You can learn more about LeaderShape at www.leadershape.org.

We anticipate jointly hosting another session of the LeaderShape Institute in May 2008.  Watch this page for additional details and announcements.  Until then, you can read about qualifications and other logistics from last year’s program below.

Qualifications

There is an application process to select up to 25 students to attend the Institute.  To be eligible to attend LeaderShape, the following criteria must be met: minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, be in “good standing” (academically and judicially), and have some experience in a leadership setting during college.  Applicants must also be returning to Trinity for at least the following fall semester.

Cost to Attend

Students selected to attend LeaderShape will be asked to pay $100 of their own funds as a sign of their commitment to attend. This Institute costs approximately $1,450 + travel to attend nationally and about $700 regionally, so we are pleased to offer this opportunity to our students at a low cost.  Students are allowed to seek up to $50 of support from their student organization or department to help defray costs.  All other costs (lodging, food, travel and materials) are included at no expense to the student.

After a student has been selected to attend and has placed a deposit on file, there will be no refunds.  Further, if a student declines to attend after April 2, the student will forfeit the $100 deposit and be required to find a replacement or pay an additional cancellation penalty of $200.

Additional Notes

Students selected to attend will have the opportunity to store their belongings on campus after finals and throughout the LeaderShape Institute.  Individual arrangements will be made after student attendees have been announced, including an extension time in the residence halls after finals have ended.

The Institute will be held at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas.  Transportation between San Antonio and New Braunfels will be provided to all participants.
