Dr. Bill Kurtin has entered into a phased retirement. During the fall semesters of 2004 and 2005, he will be teaching lecture and laboratory courses in the introductory chemistry program. He has terminated experimental research work, and over the next couple of years will be writing up remaining results from his lab. He plans to start full retirement in 2006.

Teaching Interests

Courses Taught:

Biochemistry and Laboratory                        Molecular Spectroscopy
Advanced Biochemistry                                Instrumental Analysis
Physical Biochemistry                                   Polymer Chemistry
Analytical Chemistry                                     Origin of Life
General Chemistry and Laboratory               Technical Writing (Cont. Ed.)
Organic Chemistry and Laboratory

Research Interests

Most recent research efforts have been directed toward understanding the interaction of the the long chain fatty acids with the lipid components of hepatic bile, especially the bile salts (BS). Knowledge of these molecular interactions is essential in order to understand the physical chemistry involved in fatty acid uptake.
