| While Trinity University is a primarily undergraduate
institution, and no degrees beyond the baccalaureate are offered in chemistry,
the department has a long history of involving post-doctoral associates
in both its research and teaching mission. Although all of the post-doctoral
positions currently available focus on research, some incoporporate a teaching
component. Even for those post-doctoral positions that are research oriented,
teaching opportunities are usually available as a supplement. This experience
can be particularly advantageous to those interested in a career at a primarily
undergraduate institution. Post-doctoral associates are well-integrated within
the department: mentoring undergraduate research students, participating
in group meetings, and attending seminar and departmental faculty meetings. The Department of Chemistry currently employs seven post-doctoral associates and anticipates maintaining this level for the next few years. |
