Founded in 1988, the department has recently expanded to five full-time faculty members. The department prides itself on its interdisciplinarity, with faculty of the department collaborating with colleagues in Religion, History, Art History, Philosophy, Modern Languages, Urban Studies, Speech and Drama, Anthropology, Political Science, and English.

The department offers majors and minors in Greek, Latin, Classical Languages, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. Throughout the term, classics course offerings are complemented by frequent play readings, colloquia, visiting lecturers, and even movies. Classics courses are an integral part of the Common Curriculum and indeed our courses tend to be wildly popular among the teeming masses.
