Welcome to the Department of Classical Studies at Trinity University!

Founded in 1988, the department has now expanded to six full-time faculty; this fall, we're thrilled that Corinne Pache, an expert on Ancient Greek religion and poetics, will be joining the gang. We're also pleased to welcome this year Sarah Bolmarcich, an expert on Greek and Roman historiography and cultural studies. With the retirement of original departmental member Joan Burton (now emerita!), the department will again be running a search this fall: details may be found here.

The department prides itself on its interdisciplinarity, with faculty of the department collaborating with colleagues across the university, including Religion, History, Gender Studies, and Anthropology. We're especially proud of our involvement with HUMA 1600, Trinity's "Great Books" course--this year Dr. Timothy O'Sullivan is the director and ringmaster.

The department offers majors and minors in Ancient Greek, Latin, Classical Languages, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. Throughout the term, classics course offerings are complemented by frequent play readings, colloquia, visiting lecturers, and movies. (This fall, we've even got a rock band.) Classics courses are an integral part of the Common Curriculum and indeed our courses tend to be hugely popular among Trinity's undergraduates. (As one senior wrote about her experiences in the classics department: "All the cool kids do it." What greater kleos, 'glory,' can there be than that?)
