Trinity University Urban Studies Program Earl M. Lewis Symposium on Urban Affairs What does the future hold for the massive Sunbelt cities that now dominate American urban life? Some of the challenges they face will be explored at the second Earl M. Lewis Symposium on Urban Affairs, to be held at Trinity University on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1, 2005. Entitled A Tale of Two Cities: Atlanta and San Antonio, the symposium will draw on the expertise and insights of leaders from both communities. Helping to set some of their shared challenges in perspective will be Henry Cisneros, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary and a four-term mayor of San Antonio, who will deliver the keynote address at the Saturday luncheon, beginning at noon.
The Lewis symposium, named in honor of the founder and long-time director of Urban Studies at Trinity, will kick off on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Trinity University’s Holt Conference Center, 106 Oakmont Court, with a reception, followed by a celebration of the path-breaking achievements of the late Maynard Jackson, Atlanta’s first African-American mayor. Saturday’s sessions, which will be held at Chapman Center, begin at 8:30 a.m., and will focus on how Atlanta and San Antonio have responded to a host of shared problems, including increased pressures on open space and the intensifying need for water, and what each must do to build a more sustainable future. ***Conference Schedule: http://www.trinity.edu/departments/urban_studies/Lewis%202005/2005%20schedule.htm Please register by calling 210-999-7601 or simply download and print a registration form for the Lewis Symposium here: http://www.trinity.edu/departments/conferences/webforms/Registration Form for web.pdf For more information, please check this web page for updates or contact Char Miller, Director, Urban Studies, at 999-7608 or fmiller@trinity.edu Trinity University Department of Urban Studies: |
