About Us

Mission

We strive to enhance the education of Trinity students by facilitating their personal and academic development.

Hours

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on official University holidays.

Eligibility for Services

Students enrolled at Trinity University may use our services.  Faculty, staff, and alumni may consult with a counselor who will provide a referral to off-campus providers, if appropriate.

Cost

There is no cost for our services.

Confidentiality

Information provided to a counselor and obtained through testing is confidential and is released only with the client's written permission unless release is required by ethical, legal or judicial standards.  The most likely exceptions to confidentiality are imminent danger to self or others, mandated reporting of abuse, and court-ordered compliance with subpoenas.  Any psychologist on staff will gladly answer questions about confidentiality at any time, and each initial session begins with an opportunity for the new client to clarify confidentiality before counseling begins.

Our Sensitivity to Diversity

Each staff member is committed to providing assistance that is culturally-sensitive and affirming to our diverse clientele, which includes students of color, international students, sexual-minority (LGBT) students, and students from all socio-economic backgrounds and with varying religious/spiritual beliefs.

What Our Clients Say about Us

Periodically we invite current and former clients to give us anonymous feedback via an online survey about their experience at Counseling Services.  Here are results from our April 2007 survey (n=93):  95% reported they were satisfied with the services at Counseling Services; 90% reported improvement as a result of counseling while 4% said it was “too soon to say.”

On-campus Presentations

A member of our staff can provide a workshop or presentation to a group of five or more students, faculty, or staff, pending the availability of staff member with adequate time to prepare.  Popular presentation topics include:  healthy romantic relationships, time management, and safer-drinking practices.

E-mail Policy

Because the confidentiality of e-mail cannot be guaranteed and because staff members do not always see e-mail in a timely manner, we urge clients (past, present, and potential) to communicate with us by telephone or in person.  Similarly, we urge family, friends, and others to communicate sensitive information about a student by telephone or in person.
