Fostering Achievement

Trinity's success is measured by the success of the young men and women we educate. As students, they've been Rhodes, Goldwater, and Beckman Scholars and been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Honor Roll in record numbers. As graduates, they've started companies, created acclaimed works of art and literature, served as U.S. senators and judges, and influenced thousands of other lives as doctors, lawyers, scientists, and educators. Through their good work, the impact of a Trinity education extends around the globe.

Re-envisioning Trinity
Challenged by President Brazil to take our curriculum to the next level, our faculty responded with "Re-envisioning Trinity," a series of initiatives that capitalize on Trinity's strengths and meet the demands of the global society in which our students must thrive:
  • Funding for Interdisciplinary science will ensure that as the study and practice of science continues to find its most fertile ground in the boundaries between disciplines, our students and faculty will have the resources and equipment they need do the best "hands-on, brains-on" science.
  • Building on the strength of our Chinese program, the East Asian Studies initiative will add courses, faculty positions, and research and study abroad opportunities in the politics, language, and culture of China, Korea, and Japan countries whose growing influence will be one of the dominant geopolitical stories of the 21st century.
  • Support for Spanish and Latin American Studies takes advantage of Trinity's location and depth of faculty expertise to launch new programs, support new student and faculty research, host symposia, and turn our strength in this area into an international force.
  • The Civic Engagement and Leadership of Trinity's students is unmatched, and we want to reward and encourage it even further by integrating service-learning and leadership options directly into the curriculum. This experience will enhance our students' leadership skills while strengthening our relationship with San Antonio.
  • A new focus on Entrepreneurship will combine resources from business, engineering, and computer science with those from speech and drama, political science, and art to equip students with the skills to turn almost any interest into a viable business idea.
  • An Urban Studies initiative will build on Trinity's legacy of training successful city planners and urban administrators, turning the program into a full-fledged center of excellence, with more internship and research opportunities.

Staying ahead of the technological curve
Goal: $15,000,000
Our wireless Internet network and our faculty's integration of technology into lectures and assignments have made Trinity among the most advanced campuses in the nation. But technology becomes outdated at an increasingly rapid rate. Campaign funding will allow us to keep pace with the rate of technological change, create a new technology center in Coates Library, and ensure that our students and faculty have access to the most helpful teaching and learning enhancements that technology can provide.

Calling on the "Muses"
Goal: $5,000,000
Whether as a first or second major or an avocation discovered while exploring the core curriculum, art, theater, and music have always been an important part of our students' lives. Campaign funding for art and music facilities will ensure that Trinity's artists and performers continue to have the best studio, rehearsal, and exhibition spaces.

Strengthening our athletic programs and recreational facilities
Goal: $5,000,000
Sports and recreation are an integral part of our students' lives. They are also important pedagogical tools. Trinity student-athletes are coached to excel, and they take that attitude with them to the classroom and the workplace. In the past five years, the members of Trinity's 18 men's and women's teams have brought home four NCAA championship trophies and three national titles in individual sports, all while earning GPAs as high or higher than their non-student-athlete peers. Campaign funding for athletics and recreation will ensure that our students' experiences in these areas remain the very best.

Launching our students' careers
Goal: $2,000,000
By coordinating internships, building networks, and developing students' job searches and presentation skills, enhanced Career Development programs will give our students a competitive advantage as they establish themselves in the professional marketplace.

Enhancing our students' "Second homes"
Goal: $10,000,000
Residence halls are the place where friendships are forged and leadership skills nurtured. They also play a key role in student recruitment and satisfaction, and they can be a powerful incentive for upperclass students to remain on campus and be engaged in student life. Trinity is proud to have the kind of residence halls that exemplify and encourage a sense of community — in fact, parents of prospective students often say that the residence halls speak volumes about the Trinity experience. Endowment funds will ensure that the University can always maintain and upgrade its residence halls and offer students the very best home away from home.
