An expert on posttraumatic stress disorder, psychology
professor Carolyn Becker recently set her sights on the relationship between body
image and eating disorders. In the process, she found a particularly compelling
way to involve her students in her research — she made them both her subjects and
her assistants. Together, she and members of Trinity’s sororities studied the
impact of media images of beauty on the behavior of college-aged women. Their
research evolved into “The Sorority Body Image Program,” an eating disorder prevention
program that helps young women adopt healthier behaviors by changing how they
view their own bodies. |
