Brown Foundation Authorizes $2 Million Grant to Trinity University for Top Scholars Program

SAN ANTONIO – Trustees of The Brown Foundation Inc. of Houston have authorized a $2 million grant to Trinity University for the Top Scholars Program, a key component of the Campaign for Trinity University, a $200 million comprehensive capital campaign that was launched publicly in September.

The grant will help some of the nation’s very top students attend Trinity. A broad goal of the campaign is to increase significantly the amount of financial aid and scholarships that Trinity can offer.

John R. Brazil, president of Trinity University, expressed gratitude to the Brown Foundation, which has supported Trinity for many years. Dr. Brazil called the foundation’s gift “important and timely.” Among the existing endowments at Trinity funded by The Brown Foundation are the Alice Pratt Brown Distinguished Professorship in Art History, the George R. Brown Distinguished Professorship in Business Administration, and the A. Baker Duncan Scholarship Fund in the Arts. The foundation also has helped support renovation projects for the Coates Library and the Holt Conference Center.

Trinity University, founded in 1869, is one of the nation’s top private undergraduate institutions. Noted for its superior academic quality, outstanding faculty, and exceptional academic and residential resources, Trinity is committed to the intellectual, civic, and professional preparation of its students.
