Admission Criteria
The Department encourages candidates from diverse fields of study and backgrounds to apply. Candidates should possess an undergraduate degree with a major (or equivalent) in the subject they intend to teach. At a minimum, applicants are encouraged to have some experience working, either paid or volunteer, with student populations in a professional or academic setting. The application process is competitive and strong candidates will have excellent academic credentials, strong test scores, and be committed to teaching as a lifelong profession.
Applicants are expected to have the following:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preference is given to candidates with an undergraduate major (or equivalent) in the subject they intend to teach.
- Test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). A graduate degree from an accredited institution can obviate the need to submit standardized test scores.
- At a minimum, applicants are encouraged to have some experience working, either paid or volunteer, with student populations in a professional or academic setting.
- A 3-semester-hour course in human growth and development.
- College-level computer skills as demonstrated by coursework or experience.
