Supplemental Teaching Certificates

In addition to earning primary certification in a content-area, students are eligible to earn supplemental Texas teaching certificates are in Special Education and English as a Second Language (ESL). In order to pursue this additional certification, students must complete the following course sequence during their undergraduate education.

Required Course Sequence: Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • ENGL 33456
  • LING 1300
  • Two of the following: ENGL 3346; SOCI 3310; or PSYC 2330

Required Course Sequence: Special Education

  • EDUC 3330
  • EDUC 3331
  • EDUC 3332
  • EDUC 3333

Having completed the classes while in undergraduate, in the fifth year, teaching interns must pass the required TExES exams to complete their supplemental licensure. The exams are regularly administered by ETS at a cost of $82/each.
