Saturday Morning Experience

America's energy is mind-power. The Saturday Morning Experience (SME) program at Trinity captures this energy in an enrichment program for 1st-8th grade Gifted and Talented students. Students enrolled in SME explore the disciplines of mathematics, science, reading, social sciences, language arts, physical education and the fine arts.
The program is coordinated by a team of graduate students and a faculty sponsor in the Education department at Trinity University. The enrollment is limited to approximately 100 students to ensure a quality experience for the students.
We hope to give the students an early introduction to a university setting by giving them the opportunity to experience Trinity's campus, including visits to the campus library and use of the technology provided in the classrooms.
Saturday Morning Experience is an exceptional gift to the children of San Antonio, especially children who benefit from innovative challenges outside the classroom.
Each September through April, roughly every other Saturday morning, Saturday Morning Experience offers extra time and attention through a variety of lessons developed with input from the students themselves. This not only makes the lesson more engaging, but also involves the students in their learning and guides them to take responsibility for it. Participating students range from first to eighth grade and have been identified as gifted and talented or have scored above a certain amount on an IQ test.
Three Trinity graduate students run the program. They hire, train and guide Trinity undergraduates who develop engaging and educational lesson plans. Lessons vary depending upon both mentor and students. With student input, mentors develop curriculum based on what students want to learn, whether Greek mythology or marine biology.
