TUITION EXCHANGE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1.What is an 'import' school?
The 'import' school is the college/university that you are applying to for admission and a tuition exchange scholarship.
Q2. Who is eligible?
Dependent children of Trinity University employees. However, employees should first confirm their eligibility for the program by contacting the Office of Human Resources at (210) 999-7507.
Q3. What do I do first?
Dependent children of Trinity University employees must first apply to each school before the employee completes the paperwork for Tuition Exchange certification. Student applicants must meet all academic and admission requirements at the import school, and be starting on their first baccalaureate degree.
Q4. Is Tuition Exchange guaranteed?
No, Tuition Exchange is not guaranteed. However, an eligible Trinity University employee's benefit allows the Trinity University employee dependent the opportunity to apply for the scholarship. Certification by Trinity University does not guarantee a Tuition Exchange award at the import school. The number of scholarships offered and the criteria used for the selection of students are determined by the importing school, not Trinity University.
Q5. How many years can my dependent receive a scholarship?
Tuition Exchange students may use their awards for a maximum of four years (8 semesters). Schools may limit the award to two years and/or may require the student to live on campus.
Q6. What costs does the Trinity Exchange scholarship cover?
The actual dollar value is determined by the importing institution. Most scholarships cover full tuition, but some include additional awards for room & board. Information on the current value of the award may be obtained by contacting the importing institution directly.
Q7. Are their any restrictions placed on a Tuition Exchange scholarship?
Each institution determines the guidelines for the Tuition Exchange scholarship use and renewal. Generally speaking, Summer sessions are excluded from Tuition Exchange & the scholarship CANNOT be used for Study Abroad. Tuition Exchange awards are normally renewed if the student has met GPA requirements, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and has been continually enrolled as a full-time student. We strongly encourage families to contact each school for details.
Q8. When can I apply for Tuition Exchange?
The best time to apply for a Tuition Exchange Scholarship is at the same time you apply for admission. Many schools have a specific deadline for Tuition Exchange applicants. Please contact each school to inquire about current deadlines.
Q9. Are their any fees involved?
There are no fees for filing a Tuition Exchange application. However, schools who are members of both TEI and ACS, must be processed through ACS. ACS requires a $1,500 participation fee per student, per year. This fee is payable directly to ACS from the student/parent by July 30th of the incoming year (July 30, 2005 for 05-06 enrollment ).
Q10. Where do I get the paperwork to apply?
The Tuition Exchange application for eligible Trinity University employees is available on-line. Please print out and complete one application per school.
Requests for Tuition Exchange must be received by the Financial Aid Office by March 1 for the upcoming academic year (example: applications for the 2005-2006 academic year must be received by March 1, 2005).
Q11. How does the importing school receive my application for Tuition Exchange benefits?
After you have completed your Tuition Exchange application and submitted it Trinity's Office of Financial Aid, the Tuition Exchange Officer will forward the official Tuition Exchange Certification to each applicable school.
Q12. How will I find out if my dependent received a scholarship?
It varies by institution. Many schools notify the student at the time of admission. Once the student has decided to accept a Tuition Exchange award they must notify the Tuition Exchange Coordinator at Trinity's Office of Financial Aid immediately.
Should you have additional questions, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at (210) 999-8315 or financialaid@trinity.edu.
