Financial Aid FAQs

Are there scholarships/grants available to graduate students?
Need-based gift aid is typically only available to undergraduate students. Should gift funding become available, the Office of Financial Aid will contact you regarding any changes or adjustments to your financial aid package. Please contact your respective graduate department directly to inquire about graduate departmental scholarships and assistantships.

What are the interest rates on loans?
The Federal Perkins loan has a fixed 5% interest rate. The Federal Stafford (subsidized and unsubsidized) loan has a fixed interest rate of 6% for undergraduates and 6.8% for graduate students. The Federal PLUS and Grad PLUS loans have an interest rate of 8.5%. The College Access Loan has a fixed interest rate of 6%. The alternative loan has a variable interest rate determined by the lender.

Is the Free Application foe Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) required to be eligible for the Graduate PLUS loan?
Yes, the FAFSA is required for Graduate PLUS loan eligibility.

I was awarded the Graduate PLUS loan. What is this and how do I apply for this loan?
The Federal Graduate PLUS Loan is a credit-worthy loan available to graduate students. A graduate student may borrow up to the cost of attendance minus any other aid awarded. The FAFSA is a requirement to apply for funds through the Graduate PLUS. Graduate PLUS applicants must apply directly through Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation's Loans By Web (LBW). Approved applications will be certified by the Office of Financial Aid.

What is Loans By Web (LBW)?
LBW is a web-based process offered through Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TGSLC) used to apply for Federal Stafford and PLUS/Grad PLUS loans. If you are awarded the Federal Stafford loan, the Office of Financial Aid will initiate your loan through LBW upon receipt of your accepted and signed financial aid award letter. The LBW step-by-step process will assist you in completing and submitting an application after you receive an e-mail notification from TGSLC. PLUS/Grad PLUS applicants must apply directly through Texas Guarantee Student Loan Corporation's Loans By Web (LBW). Approved applications will be certified by the Office of Financial Aid.

If I will be receiving external scholarships, employer reimbursement or VA benefits should I contact the Office of Financial Aid?
Yes. Any external awards not awarded by Trinity must be reported to the Office of Financial Aid. These external funds must be counted as a resource in meeting your financial need, and consequently, we may have to adjust your financial aid package.
