MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS and APPLICATION PROCEDURES
A variety of merit-based scholarships are available:
TRINITY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
$4,000 - $15,000
- academic preparation and performance
- standardized test scores
- application essay and writing skills
- co-curricular involvement
- recommendation letters
Trinity rewards academic performance by offering scholarships to students who have distinguished scholastic records.
Generally, students are considered for these awards based on a variety of factors, including:
All merit awards are renewable for up to eight semesters of undergraduate study. To ensure renewal students must enroll full-time each semester (minimum 12 credit hours per semester), complete 24 credit hours per academic year, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and earn the required cumulative Trinity GPA associated with their merit award. Merit scholarships and grants are applied toward fall and spring tuition only, and are not available for summer study.
How to apply for Trinity Academic Scholarships:
No additional forms are needed to be considered for these awards, since the application for admission is used to determine eligibility.

DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD

The Distinguished Scholar Award is a full-tuition scholarship, available to entering new first year students, which includes $5,000 in research support for stipend, professional travel, materials and supplies. The Distinguished Scholar Award is available to all students, except for those planning to major in a Semmes area (see Semmes Distinguished Science Scholar Award below).
Both domestic and foreign students may apply for this scholarship. It may be applied toward participation in a study abroad program.
- Submit the Distinguished Scholar application form by January 1.

- Candidates will be notified for a campus visit and interview by February 1
- Campus visits and interviews will be held by early March

SEMMES DISTINGUISHED SCIENCE SCHOLAR AWARD

The Semmes Distinguished Science Scholar Award is a full-tuition scholarship, available to entering new first year students, which includes $5,000 in research support for stipend, professional travel, materials and supplies. FINE ARTS AND DEBATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Baker Duncan Scholarships
$3,000-$10,000
First year students who plan to participate in music or debate, major or minor in drama, or major in art may qualify for these awards. A separate application process is required, and students may submit materials in more than one area of the arts.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Trinity offers merit scholarships and need-based gift aid (which does not have to be paid back) to international students who are neither U.S. citizens nor U.S. permanent residents. Please note that we take into account whether an applicant can finance their Trinity education when reviewing his or her application for admission.
Merit scholarships are based on a student’s course rigor and academic performance, standardized tests, strength of essay, involvement outside the classroom, and recommendations from school officials. Your application for admission is also your application for merit scholarships.
Need-based financial aid is based on the demonstrated financial support of the student’s family, as established by their International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) a required form when applying for admission. Eligibility for need-based aid is determined by the formula below:

NATIONAL PRESBYTERIAN SCHOLARSHIP

This award of up to $1,400 is available to students who meet the following criteria:
- maintain a 3.0 grade point average
- are members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
- are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States
- demonstrate financial need
- will enter college in Fall of 2009
- have taken the SAT/ACT exam no later than December 15 of their senior year in high school
