AID FROM OUTSIDE SOURCES
An abundance of financial aid is available from sources outside of Trinity. We encourage students to seek as many outside awards as possible. Prospective students are advised to check with their high school counselor as he or she may know of scholarship opportunities. Parents’ employers and civic organizations may also be good resources, as many provide scholarship opportunities to children of employees or members. Trinity University partners with The University of Texas at San Antonio to offer ROTC scholarships to interested Trinity students. Additionally, current Trinity students should check with their academic major department, since many professors are aware of scholarship opportunities from professional organizations and industries related to their area of study.
The Internet can be a valuable resource in helping you to locate additional scholarship resources. Some helpful scholarship websites include www.fastweb.com, www.finaid.org, www.collegescholarships.org, and www.collegeboard.com.
Do not waste your money on fee-based scholarship matching services, which will not give you any better information than you can get from the free services available online. Scholarships that sound too good to be true, usually are. Please beware: if you have to pay money to get money, it's probably a scam.
You must report any external awards you receive from sources other than Trinity to the Office of Financial Aid, and ensure that funds are sent directly to the university. These awards must be counted as a resource in meeting your educational costs and coordinated with your other sources of financial aid. If you do not demonstrate financial need, an outside award may be added to any merit awards up to Trinity’s cost of attendance. If you do demonstrate financial need, an outside award when combined with other sources of funding cannot exceed your financial need. In such cases, outside awards will generally reduce work-study and loans. Circumstances may require the reduction of your federal, state, or institutional gift aid as a result of external funds.
