Are Trinity merit scholarships renewable?
The National Merit/Recognition, Trustees’, President’s, and Murchison merit scholarships are renewable for eight semesters of undergraduate study. The student must maintain full-time (a minimum of 24 hours for the academic year) enrollment and an overall Trinity grade point average of 3.0.
Is the Dean's Scholarship renewable?
The Dean's Scholarship is renewable if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress (2.0 cumulative GPA) and full-time (a minimum of 24 hours for the academic year) enrollment.
What is Federal Work-Study (FWS)?
FWS is an employment program that allows you to earn money by working part-time on campus. To apply for federal work-study, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must demonstrate financial need to be eligible. If you are eligible, you will be awarded FWS. Your Federal Work Study Agreement will be issued to you by the Office of Human Resources at the begining of the Fall semester.
Your FWS award at Trinity is not credited to your student account to offset tuition charges. The award amount indicates the maximum amount a student worker can earn during the academic year. Student employees will be paid bi-weekly. You may spend your FWS earnings as you wish.
What are the interest rates on loans?
The Federal Perkins loan has a fixed 5% interest rate. The Federal Stafford (subsidized and unsubsidized) loan has a fixed interest rate of 6% for undergraduates and 6.8% for graduate students. (The 2009-2010 undergraduate Subsidized Stafford interest rate will be 5.6%). The Federal PLUS and Grad PLUS loans have an interest rate of 8.5%. The College Access Loan has a fixed interest rate of 6%. The alternative loan has a variable interest rate determined by the lender.
What is Loans By Web (LBW)?
LBW is a web-based process offered through Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TGSLC) used to apply for Federal Stafford and PLUS/Grad PLUS loans. If you are awarded the Federal Stafford loan, the Office of Financial Aid will initiate your loan through LBW upon receipt of your accepted and signed financial aid award letter. The LBW step-by-step process will assist you in completing and submitting an application after you receive an e-mail notification from TGSLC. PLUS/Grad PLUS applicants must apply directly through Texas Guarantee Student Loan Corporation's Loans By Web (LBW).
Approved applications will be certified by the Office of Financial Aid.
I was awarded a Federal PLUS loan. What is this and how do I apply for this loan?
The Federal PLUS Loan is a credit-worthy loan available to parents of undergraduate students. A parent may borrow up to the cost of attendance minus any other aid awarded to the student. The FAFSA is not a requirement to apply for funds through the PLUS. PLUS applicants must apply directly through Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation's Loans By Web (LBW).
Approved applications will be certified by the Office of Financial Aid.
If I will be receiving external scholarships, employer reimbursement or VA benefits should I contact the Office of Financial Aid?
Yes. Any external awards not awarded by Trinity must be reported to the Office of Financial Aid. These external funds must be counted as a resource in meeting your financial need, and consequently, we may have to adjust your financial aid package.
