The GeoClub is hosting a talk by Dr. Don Van Nieuwenhuise from the University of Houston. He will talk about his experiences as an expert commentator on the BP spill and the University of Houston Graduate Programs in Petroleum Geology and Geophysics on Tuesday, November 9 in MMS 257. Refreshments will be at 4:45 pm and the talk will begin at 5:00 pm.

New Faculty - Dr. Daniel Lehrmann joined the department this summer as the Walter and Gertrude Pyron Distinguished Professor. Dan is a paleontologist whose research involves carbonate platforms in South China and the end-Permian mass extinction. Dan received his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and comes to us from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he has demonstrated an excellent track record in undergraduate teaching and research. He plans to continue taking students to China for field trips and research. Dan will teach paleontology and introductory geosciences courses along with other electives such as basin analysis. He and his family have already found a home in San Antonio and moved here in June.
