John
B.B.A. Finance and M.B.A.
Texas Tech University

John was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but has spent most of his life in Texas.  While pursuing an undergraduate degree in finance at Texas Tech University, he competed on the men’s varsity tennis team and was named an Academic All-American.  In 2005, John earned a Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University, where he was on the President’s Honor Roll.  After graduation, he worked as a commercial real estate broker for three years at Swearingen Realty Group L.L.C. in Dallas, Texas.  Since then, John has been a tennis teaching professional at Brookhaven Tennis Academy in Dallas.  He is a graduate assistant for the Department of Health Care Administration.  In his spare time, John enjoys tennis, basketball, golf, hunting, and Texas Tech football.

Genevieve

University

Genevieve was born and raised on the other side of the Red River in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in management in May of 2009.  While at Trinity, she was a three-year member of the women’s basketball team and active in the Gamma Chi Delta sorority.  As she prepares to begin Trinity’s health care administration program, she is also looking forward to an internship at Southwest Regional Hospital in San Antonio.  During her spare time, Genevieve enjoys traveling, cooking, painting, tennis, golf and being active outdoors.

Dawn
B.S. Biology, Clemson University
M.D. The Medical University of South Carolina

Dawn is a graduate of Clemson University in South Carolina and The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston.  She was awarded early acceptance to medical school during her sophomore year at Clemson.  At Clemson, Dawn was a member of the NHS, The Pre-Med Honor Society, and Alpha Delta Pi sorority.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in biological sciences in May of 1995.  Dawn received the Harper DeWitt Academic Scholarship at MUSC.  She was also chosen to participate in The Parallel Curriculum, a team-oriented, case-based method of learning.  She was appointed student liaison to the Parallel Curriculum Advisory Board.  Dawn passed the first two steps of the USMLE medical boards and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in May of 1998.   Dawn deferred doing a residency and has been raising her three children for the past nine years.  In 2005, Dawn and her ex-husband established a private gynecologic oncology practice which she organized and managed until December, 2008.

Jessica
B.A. Communication, Spanish

Trinity University

Jessica graduated magna cum laude from Trinity University in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in communication and Spanish.  Although internships she held while at Trinity focused on marketing, an internship at Childbuilders, a non-profit organization in Houston, inspired her to use the skills and knowledge she acquired in college to benefit her community.  Jessica served as the vice president for the Trinity chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and participated in various volunteer activities with this and other organizations. She is a member of Golden Key, NSCS, and Alpha Lambda Delta, and was named to the Dean’s List five semesters.  As a Houston native, Jessica looks forward to continuing her career there after completion of this program.  She has a passion for family, friends, and canines of all types and enjoys the outdoors, baseball, and yoga in her spare time.  Having recently been named the John E. Hornbeak Scholar, Jessica is honored and thrilled to begin this program.

Constance
B.S. Biology, Business Administration

Trinity University

Constance was born in Houston, Texas, was raised in Taipei, Taiwan, and graduated from Taipei American School. She started her undergraduate studies at Trinity University as a pre-med student, majoring in biology. She always had a strong interest in health care and was heavily invested in volunteer services.  Constance earned the Outstanding Service Award in 2005. After an internship at Bayer Healthcare in 2007, she added a second major in business administration with the intention of working towards health care management. Constance held many leadership roles while at Trinity including founding the Chess Club, a registered club with the Trinity Campus and Community Involvement office. Throughout her undergraduate years, she was involved in different kinds of research and is now currently working on a research publication. In her leisure time, she enjoys playing the piano and guitar, tennis, and photography.

Lindsay
B.S. Business Administration

Trinity University

Lindsay is originally from The Woodlands, Texas, although her family moved to San Antonio the day she started her undergraduate classes at Trinity University.  She received a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in marketing and a minor in communication management from the University in May of 2009.  Lindsay’s extracurricular activities included serving as her sorority’s president, resident mentoring for Residential Life, and interning in Trinity’s admissions office.  She was also a regular volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and helped to organize a student-focused charity walk to raise money for the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation.  Academically, Lindsay was on the dean’s list for five semesters and received the D. Harold Byrd, Jr. Academic Achievement Award from the business administration department.  In her free time, she enjoys cooking, sports, and exploring San Antonio.

Allison
B.S. Business Administration

Trinity University

Allison is originally from California but grew up in Fort Worth, Texas.  She graduated in May of 2009 from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in marketing.  She also completed minors in Spanish and communication management.  During her time at Trinity, Allison was very involved in her sorority, Sigma Theta Tau, and held positions as corresponding secretary and traditions and ceremonies chair.  She also had the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad in Australia.  A summer internship at Texas Health Resources prior to her senior year sparked an interest in pursuing a career in health care administration.  Allison is looking forward to being part of the Trinity program.

Esther
B.S. Health Policy and Administration
The Pennsylvania State University

Esther was born and raised in Dallas, TX.  She graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in health policy and administration and a minor in economics from The Pennsylvania State University.  At Penn State, Esther was accepted into The College of Health and Human Development’s Women’s Leadership Initiative where she experienced professional and self development.  During her junior year, she interned at The VA Heart of Texas Health Care Network (VISN 17) in Arlington, TX, which reaffirmed her passion and desire to pursue a career in Health Care Administration. Currently, she is working at VISN 17’s Center of Excellence for Research on Returning War Veterans in Waco, TX, as a program specialist/management trainee.  She will also serve as a graduate assistant for Trinity’s Department of Health Care Administration.  Esther enjoys running, traveling, and cooking.

Andrew
B.B.A. Economics
University of Texas at Arlington

Andrew graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Business Administration in economics in December of 2008.  During his undergraduate studies, Andrew worked in biomedical research as a research assistant to Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience chair James Simpkins at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas.  His responsibilities included training incoming graduate students in basic lab techniques, developing and conducting various research studies, and writing and editing grant proposals and publications, many of which can be seen in distinguished magazines such as Science and Journal of Neuroscience.  Much of this work has been presented at various national meetings around the country such as The Society for Neuroscience annual meetings and numerous seminars.

Darshan
B.S. Psychology

Darshan graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in December of 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology.  Following graduation, he spent almost a year in India doing volunteer work.  During his time in India, Darshan worked in a hospital and was able to see how healthcare works in a foreign country.  After returning from India, he did a six-month administrative internship at St. Luke's Sugar Land Hospital.  In addition, he also managed an internal medicine practice.  Due to his various experiences within the healthcare field, Darshan is absolutely certain that health care administration is the perfect field for him.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology with minors in neuroscience and Spanish from Texas A&M University in May of 2009.  She gained much experience in various healthcare settings through volunteering in the emergency room at St. Joseph hospital in Bryan, and shadowing a physician at a small family practice.  Elizabeth also interned at a natural birthing center where she completed various administrative duties in the office, and saw a live water birth.  She spent two weeks in Costa Rica and Panama administering healthcare services to under-served rural communities.  Elizabeth was a counselor for two years at Texas A&M for Fish Camp, a four-day orientation camp for incoming freshmen.  She also held various leadership roles in her sorority, Delta Gamma, as well as the role of Executive Vice President of the Panhellenic Council, the council that presided over 2,000 Greek women at Texas A&M.  This summer Elizabeth worked at a language school in The Woodlands, Texas, where she taught ESL to adults and kids who wanted to learn English.

Freddy
B.S. Biology
Texas A&M University

Freddy is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas.  His first introduction to health care occurred in high school when he volunteered at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Texas A&M University in 2004.  After graduation, he served as a research technician at Texas A&M University for two years.  He then held the position of medical technician for an allergist’s office in College Station, Texas.  Freddy has been a personal fitness trainer for the past eight years and has been training exclusively since 2008 at Koenig Personal Fitness, a private personal training studio owned by him and his twin brother.  He has always been interested in health care and hopes to make a significant impact in improving the health care system.  Freddy enjoys the outdoors, sports, and being with family and friends in his spare time.

Julianne
B.S. Biomedical Science

Julianne was born in Thousand Oaks, California and was raised in Kingwood, Texas.  She graduated in May of 2009 from Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science in biomedical science with a minor in business.  While at A&M, she was involved with Fish Camp, a four-day orientation camp for first-year students, serving as a director, co-chair, and counselor.  Julianne first became interested in health care when she volunteered at Health for All and St. Joseph Regional Health Care Center during her time at A&M.  In her spare time, Julianne enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends and family.

Matt
B.A. Community Health
Texas A&M University

Matt is from Tomball, Texas.  He learned about the field of health care administration while attending Texas A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in community health.  He began learning all that hospital administration entails during a summer internship.  By interning in the patient access department of North Cypress Medical Center, Matt was introduced to insurance verification and collection, administrative duties, and the different chains of command within a hospital.  Although he has barely scratched the surface of this large business, Matt hopes the experience gained at North Cypress will aid him in learning more about the industry during his time at Trinity.

Zach

Zach was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and raised in Amarillo, Texas.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a concentration in management from Texas Tech University in December of 2008.  For over two years, he worked at UMC Health System in Lubbock in the marketing, public relations, and corporate media departments, in addition to assisting administration on many projects.  Zach also volunteers in various capacities for several organizations, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network, Student Leadership University, and many more.  In his free time, Zach enjoys spending time outdoors with friends, reading, and searching for the best local coffee shops.

Agnes
B.A. Communication, Speech Communication
Trinity University

Agnes, a local of San Antonio, received a Bachelor of Arts in communication and speech communication from Trinity University in May of 2009.  While attending Trinity, she served as director and entertainment anchor for the on-campus and local news show Newswave.  During this time, Agnes also held internships with both H-E-B and San Antonio Business Journal.  As an intern, she developed numerous skills including writing and interviewing, and working with various editing and design programs. Agnes researched and presented a professional senior project addressing the importance of understanding EMR issues.  She also discussed alternate solutions for successful EMR implementation.  As a result, Agnes hopes to further study and ensure patient quality care.  She currently volunteers at the San Antonio VA Hospital and hopes to one day work in a children’s hospital.

Frances
B.S. Community Health
Texas A&M University

Frances received a Bachelor of Science in community health with a minor in business administration from Texas A&M University in August of 2008.  While in Aggieland, she participated in several mentoring organizations and was selected to be a peer health educator.  During the summer of 2008, Frances was given the opportunity to intern at Scott and White in College Station.  Since graduation, she has spent time traveling, being active in her church, and participating in organizations that focus on feeding the homeless and providing ways to get the homeless off the streets.

Patrick

Born in El Paso, Texas, Patrick spent much of his early childhood living in Germany as a result of his parents’ military careers.  After his father’s retirement, Patrick attended high school in Georgetown, Texas.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in finance from Trinity University in May of 2009.  Patrick’s initial interest in health care bourgeoned from a chance meeting with a member of the Health Care Administration faculty during his first undergraduate year.  He has held internships with the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas, and Denton Regional Medical Center in Denton, Texas.  Patrick greatly enjoys reading, movies, and athletics.

Kyle

Aaron Kyle Schmidt graduated from Texas A&M University in May of 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in biology.  While attending Texas A&M, Kyle served as a mentor to incoming students and as a floor representative for his dorm’s residence-hall council.  In addition, he assisted Dr. Mary Wickston in a biology graduate research project.  Kyle has held hospital-related jobs in many locations, including New Mexico, Illinois, and Texas, throughout his life.  He served most recently as an administrative resident at College Station Medical Center in College Station, Texas.  Kyle is committed to helping others and providing the best service possible.

William
B.A. Business Administration
DePaul University

William was born in Houston, TX, on June 9, 1979.  In 1982, his family relocated to Memphis, TN, where William spent his adolescence preoccupied with sports, computers, and art.  He remained in Memphis until leaving for college in 1999.    William’s undergraduate studies focused on business administration at DePaul University, following a period studying studio art at the School of the Art Institute and other institutions.  At the heart of William’s academic interests lie a love of economics and the process of deriving information from data.  His professional career began in Chicago, with a technical support and datacenter monitoring position.  In 2004, William moved to Austin, Texas, and married his girlfriend Cassie.  He became the general manager of an independent jewelry store.  While William and Cassie do not have children yet, they do have three dogs!

Patrick
B.A. Government
The University of Texas at Austin

Patrick grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where he lived until moving to Austin in 1997 to attend the University of Texas.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in government, he briefly worked at the State Capitol for the Secretary of the Senate. He was then hired by a private company which monitored and reported on all legislative activities at the State Capitol.  After a year in that position, the company sent him to run their office in Jackson, Mississippi.  Patrick spent the next four years working with the legislature while at the same time realizing a boyhood dream.  He became a pilot.  In August of 2006, he moved to Dallas, Texas, and took a job as an account executive for Owens and Minor, a major medical supply distributor.  Patrick’s plan is to continue working for Owens and Minor while pursuing his graduate degree.  He has been married for over two years to a wonderful woman named Kate.  They met on their first day of college, and Patrick is now proud to say that Kate just received her Ph.D. in counseling from the University of North Texas.

David
B.S. Business Administration

David was born and raised in Galveston, Texas.  He received a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a minor in economics from Trinity University in May of 2009.  He has been interested in the health care profession from an early age and completed an administrative internship at Galveston’s UTMB in 2007.  He has organized many local blood drives and is currently helping clean up Galveston after Hurricane Ike.  In his spare time, David enjoys football, soccer, and cooking.

Conner
B.S. Biology
Trinity University

Conner was born and raised in Plano, Texas.  He graduated cum laude from Trinity University in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in biology.  In 2008, Conner was a Trinity University-Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Recipient and presented those findings at the 49th annual American Society for Cell Biology Conference in San Francisco, CA.  He was also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in the local San Antonio area and was a member of the Trinity University men’s soccer team when they were national finalists in 2007.  In his spare time, Conner enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and listening to live music.

Jason
B.S. Biology
Oklahoma State University

Jason has lived in Oklahoma all of his life excluding a five-year stint in Dallas, TX, during his early childhood.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Oklahoma State University in December 2007.  While at Oklahoma State, Jason was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.  He held various positions of leadership in both the fraternity and the University in general.  Jason has worked for a number of departments in the INTEGRIS Health organization since the age of 16.  For the last three years, he has had a full-time leadership role at INTEGRIS Baptist Hospital as an administrative resident.  Jason works under various vice presidents in the organization who deal with strategy, operations, and real estate.  He developed cost savings programs for each of the departments, as well as assisted in the development of strategic market reports for future planning.  In addition, he has been taking graduate courses in health care administration at the University of Oklahoma.  Jason’s interests include dominating friends at golf, basketball, baseball, and going to the lake.

John

John was on the Dean’s List for four years and graduated with high honors from Abilene Christian University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and finance.  During the summer of 2008, John interned at a hospital in Las Colinas, TX.  While there, he rotated through multiple departments in the hospital and got to see the administration team working to tackle problems.  Although the majority of John’s work focused on financial issues, he was also in charge of putting together a Director Orientation Manual for new directors joining the staff.  This past summer, John was at a larger hospital, where he was more involved in the operational side of things and received some clinical exposure, having spent time in the OR, day surgery, ED, various medical units, radiology, and business development.  He has found all of his experiences to be very beneficial and informative.
