Executive-in-Residence: One unique component of Trinity’s Health Care Administration program is the Executive in Residence position. This position involves a current health care executive co-teaching a graduate course, to offer students an experienced executive’s perspective of the industry.

The current Executive-in-Residence is recently retired president and CEO of Methodist Healthcare System of San Antonio, Mr. John E. Hornbeak, LFACHE.  During his two-decade tenure with Methodist Healthcare, Mr. Hornbeak provided distinguished leadership and service to health care, civic and community organizations, and philanthropic endeavors.  His vision led Methodist Hospital through a successful alliance that merged the not-for-profit with the for-profit world of health care, creating the Methodist Healthcare System and the Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc.  Methodist Healthcare Ministries' mission is to provide charitable medical care and other health-related human services to the underserved populations of South Texas.

Mr. Hornbeak is also a distant relative of Trinity's ninth president, Samuel Hornbeak.

Visiting Executive: Mr. Stanley F. Hupfeld, FACHE, became President and Chief Executive Officer of Oklahoma Healthcare Corporation and its subsidiaries, including Baptist Medical Center of Oklahoma, on March 30, 1987.  In 1995, Hupfeld led the merger of Baptist Medical Center, Southwest Medical Center, and Baptist Healthcare of Oklahoma to form INTEGRIS Health, an integrated delivery system comprising 13 hospitals, all in Oklahoma.  After 23 years as President and CEO of INTEGRIS Health, Mr. Hupfeld transitioned effective January 1, 2010 to Chairman of the INTEGRIS Family of Foundations.

An alumnus of Trinity's Health Care Administration program, Mr. Hupfeld is kind enough to lend his time and expertise to the department and its students.  For one week per academic semester, Mr. Hupfeld comes to San Antonio to meet with students on an individual basis and provide an experiential perspective to in-class discussions.

Adjunct Faculty: Mr. Robert N. Shaw, FACHE, President of Norton Cancer Institute in Louisville, KY, is the former Executive-in-Residence.  As a double alumnus of Trinity University, Mr. Shaw graduated with a BS in Business Administration and an MS in Health Care Administration.  He has remained active in the Trinity community over the years, having served as past president of Trinity's National Alumni Board and as a member of Trinity's Board of Visitors.

Before heading Norton Cancer Institute, Mr. Shaw served as the Executive Vice President and COO of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center in San Antonio and was the President and CEO of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's Outreach Corporation in Houston.

Mr. Shaw has continued his tradition of service to the program, serving as a frequent guest speaker and chair of the campaign steering committee.
