Trinity University
Self-Instructional Language Program
Application
_________________________________________
The application, acceptance, and registration process involves several steps (not necessarily in this order):
Make known one's interest in studying a particular language. This can be done by sending a message to the Program Director, by dropping by his office for an informal chat, or by submitting the application form.
Fill out and submit an application form and submit it along with an unofficial transcript (a list of all courses taken at the college level and the grades received).
Have an interview with the Program Director, at which time the policies and procedures for self-instructional language study will be fully explained. The student will have ample opportunity to ask questions about the program and the Director will have a chance to evaluate a student's potential success in this program.
If the language has not recently been or is not currently being offered, the Director will investigate the feasibility of offering this language. This involves consulting with other departments and programs on campus, and investigating the availability of materials, tutors, and examiners. These courses are not offered solely on the basis of student demand; a request for a certain course may be turned down.
During registration or pre-registration, the student will enroll in the appropriate SILP course. Registration in these courses is by consent of the Director only, which means that all students enrolling will need to have a form signed by the Director that they will then take to the Office of the Registrar in order to complete registration for the language course. (It is not possible to register for these courses online.)
